Abstract
A significant part of the messages of information telegram channels is manipulative in nature. These are the results of a study of 500 publications of the 20 most popular Russian-language telegram channels in the News and Media category. The standards of quality journalism prescribe the separation of fact and opinion. However, in the majority (52.2%) of telegram channel publications there is no such division, and its interpretation is presented under the guise of a fact. In 76% of cases, when covering conflict-sensitive topics, the position of only one side of the conflict is given, while objectivity prescribes giving the floor to both sides. At the same time, it should be noted that the proportion of publications containing hidden advertising or “hate speech” (insulting opponents and disparaging statements regarding nationality, religion, gender, etc.) is small.
Keywords: informational telegram channels, news content, journalistic professional and ethical standards, conflict-sensitive topics, hidden manipulation and advertising.
