Genre-Thematic and Functional Features of Soviet Radio Periodicals

Abstract

This article presents the findings of a study of Soviet radio periodicals from 1924 to 1934. The study examines the genre system, key themes, and author composition, and identifies editorial strategies and functional transformations of the major specialized radio journals of the selected period. The empirical material comprised 1,368 publications from eight journals. The study traced the evolution of technical and educational content and the transformation of the amateur radio movement, as well as the intensification of ideological control and politicization of content in the early 1930s as a reflection of the sociopolitical trends of the era. The findings are discussed in relation to the works of Russian and international researchers of radio journalism and broadcasting (V.N. Ruzhnikov, A.A. Sherel’, S. Lovell, and others), thereby introducing the studied material into scholarly discourse within the context of the history of Russian journalism.
